Please excuse my English, but although I can perfectly read and understand German, my writing style in German is very poor.

I'm a Leon 1.6 16V owner, and one of my main complaints is that when you want to start to drive away, the adjustment is such that it reduces the supply of petrol. This either makes the car slow, and in some cases even means that the car turns off.

Our garage, which is very helpfull, already searched for the problem, but no obvious problems can be detected. They are aware that for some motors (AUT type), a "Steuergerät" is required, but the importer claims it is not needed for our motor type (AUS type). Does anyone have any experience on this?

Does anyone have a picture of the horse power and Nm as function of the cycles of the 1.6 16V motor (especially when it is connected to the adjustment loop)?

W.r.t. all "Mängel" in this list, I would be very interested to see whether some of the problems are related to the fabric of the car. Our car is made in Belgium (you can see it in the chassis number), whereas other cars are made in Spain.

Other problems I have are lousy radio reception (they've added an antenne amplifier without succes), and some noise from the back couch.

Despite the problems, we're very satisfied with the car.

Grussen,
Marc

Hi Marc,

welcome to our Forum. Please be so nice and set in your profil your flag to Belgium. So everyone knows where you come from. ;)

I can remember these electronic problems with the 1.6 16V engine. I´m sure someone of the 1.6 drivers may help you soon.

Hi Marc,

I have a 1.6 16V engine as well. Unfortunately I had the same problems, too. After driving a few miles without having any symptoms the motor lost most of its strengh all over sudden. When you put the first gear and released the clutch the motor didn't seem to have any tourque at all. Turning it off for half a minute (infront of a red light e.g.) helped sometimes. A had my car in the garage several times, always the same diagnostics "Fehler Antiklopfregelung" what means that the regulator circuitry failed to adjust the right ignition timing. I was waiting for almost have a year :-(( without any results
Meanwhile they released a new motor management box (Steuergeraet) and the problem seems to be solved.
There is a new revision of this box!!! I cannot tell you the difference between "AUS" and "AUT" type, I've never heard about that.
The only difference I could think of is, that there might be different limits for CO2 emission (country specific)and therefore the management box might have a different program......
My car is from the netherlands and has Euro 4 Norm.

You may also read the topics "Keine Gasannahme beim Anfahren/Standgas" and "Keine Leistung beim 77kw.."

Good luck!

P.S.: If you receive a power/torque over RPM diagram, please let me know.....

It's not so much that the motor looses substantial power when driving. It is especially when driving away, in the first gear, that you have to very carefully work with the clutch and gas pedals, because otherwis your motor will turn off. Furthermore, you can feel that the measurement loop adjusts motor power drastically, to be able achieve the D4 norm.

Related to this problem, is that the car switches off wwithout any reason. When waiting for a traffic light, with the clutch pedal fully pressed, the motor suddenly stops. Quite annoying. It happened 3x until now, including today.

Next week, the garage will have a look at it.

@allz,

Jep , i think the problem is, that the nok-Sensor is defekt. I heard about it for a few weeks at my local car dealer , there as a guy with the same problem. My car dealer , replace the nok-sensor , an made a new "learn session" for the throttle , i mean the disconnect th battery , wait 5 min to erase the data in the computer , reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition wait round about 1-2 min , (You hear , that the throttle is going to test all positions) , after that start the engine , and wait 5 min , then drive the car under different enviroments , town , motorway and so on. Now the computer should be adapted your individual driving style. I had the same prob. in the past with my bmw 320i , every time when i unpluggd the battery the same effect , the computer had to learn again !! , but the the engine runns fine !. So i hope that helps you a littlebit.

Kind regards

Markus

Thanks sofar for the feedback. Reading German is no problem indeed.

Another, probably related (?) problem, is that the cruise control sometimes stops without any reasons (which reveals itself in winter much more often that in the summer, so a loose contact could be a valid candidate).

I've talked about the nock sensor (which is a "Steuergerat" if my German serves me well) with the garage. Although this seems to be an overall problem to some 1.6i 16V motors, it is not true for ALL motors (there are AUS and AUT types, and for one of these two the nock sensor is replaced, advised by the importer). But mine might be broken indeed. I'll ask the garage.

The garage analysed the whole car with the computer several times, and couldn't find any cause untill now. They've reprogrammed the parameters of the car several times (and indeed, the car feels different after such a reset for a while, not pleasing my girl friend btw), but it didn't solve the problem.

The garage (and VW/Seat) advised me to use RON98 petrol instead of RON95. Besides the extra money this will cost me, I don't think this solves the actual problem, it only hides it.

I hope they're able to solve it next week. Until now they're very cooperative.

bob
